Is laminate waterproof?
Standard laminate is not; the core swells if water sits on it. For bathrooms and wet areas we recommend LVT or vinyl instead.
Why does laminate need an expansion gap?
The boards move with temperature and humidity. Without a gap at the walls the floor lifts and peaks. The gap is hidden by beading or scotia.
Can laminate go over my existing floor?
Over some hard floors, yes, with the right underlay. Never over carpet. We check what is there when we measure.
